Tsurui Village 2024

It is said that Tsurui Village is called “Tsurui Village (=Village with cranes)” because there are cranes. Indeed, there are many cranes, especially Red-crowned cranes in Tsurui Village. If that is the case, it is conceivable to name the village “Red-crowned crane Village” instead of “Tsurui Village. However, Tsurui Village is still Tsurui Village and not a red-crowned crane village. In 2024, in addition to red-crowned cranes, white-naped cranes wandered into the village. No, we do not know whether they strayed into the village or not. They may have flown in intentionally. In addition, a sandhill crane seemed to have flown in (although it was not there when I visited – the lady next to me told me). Thus, Tsurui Village is fulfilling its role as a “place where cranes fly in” this year, living up to its own name.
