タンザニアにある強アルカリ塩湖。乾季には、好塩性微生物が増加しそのうちの藍藻類により湖の色が赤く染まる。魚類はたった1種類のみ生息するが、鳥類の種類はそこそこ数が多く、とくにコフラミンゴとオオフラミンゴの大きな群れが生息する。また、モモイロペリカンやシギ・チドリ類も飛来する。
